2020 Roundup

2020 Roundup

(About a < 1 minute read)

It’s been the most important year of my life for many reasons:

  1. We agreed on a sale and (eventual move) to Ravensthorpe, Northamptonshire.
  2. We welcomed Halle into our family.
  3. I secured a dream job in a dream industry.
  4. COVID

Starting from the back, I’ve lived though many rough global events in my life such as the Gulf War and 9/11 – but none of these changed my world. It was just stuff on the TV that I watched from afar. Even with 9/11 and the subsequent invasion of Iraq, it didn’t change my world (albeit friends of mine went on tour to the middle-east much more). COVID though, this one’s really etched itself in the history books of my life. It caused stress during our house move, it’s the first time in my life that I’ve been told (by someone other than my family) to stay at home and it cost me a job.

The year started in the Cotswolds with a wonderful new year at a friend’s house. As COVID was becoming a thing, Alina took me to Norway to see the Fjords.

I made the best of it though by creating a cosy workspace in our old house and redesigning my CV to attract the interest of the bioscience industry.

Before I started my new role, we moved from Dunstable to Ravensthorpe.

While I was job hunting, Halle was born.

With Halle in the world, I secured my new role in Genomics with a innovative new company. At the same time, we completed our new cabin-project with the cabin foundations, build and fit-out completed at the same time I started the new role.

We closed the year out in lockdown with a minimal Christmas and a non-existent NYE.
